TIPS ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR POOL:
Make sure to regularly do skimming and scrubbing for your inground or outdoor pool
If you can afford these, you can consider buying a pool vacuum cleaner or pool surface cleaner for your convenience. But if you’re on a budget, you can just use your trusty pool brush. Skimming dead leaves and debris off the surface of the water should be done daily if possible. In addition to this, you will also be needing to scrub the sides of the pool. You can use your pool brush here, this is to prevent algae build-up.
You can also just do scrubbing once every other week. But for those stubborn spots you may need to use chlorine and let it sit on top of the spot for a few hours before scrubbing once more.
Clean your pool’s filter
The pool pump draws water that keeps your water circulating, like your heart does with your blood. While your pool filter clears dirt and other contaminants from your water just like your liver filters food that you ate the entire day. That is why it is also equally important to also clean the pool's filter regularly.
Once a month you will also want to clean the pipes used by your pool’s filter system, which you can do by backwashing. To do this, simply set your filter to backwash, remove the lead basket and clean it out. Do not do the turning on and off for your pool’s filter as this can cause the filter’s mechanics to crack, so set your filter on a timer and allow it to run for at least four to six hours a day.
Regularly check the pH of your outdoor or inground pool
Aside from checking the pH of your inground pool you should also be checking the chlorine levels at least twice per week. Make sure that your pool water should maintain a pH range of 7.4 to 7.6 and a chlorine level of 1.0 to 3.0 parts per million (ppm). You can also use chemical testing strips for this step.
Do this four hours after you, your family or friends swam in your inground pool, and at least eight hours after a rain or wind storm. You can also have an option to add products to rebalance the pH level and chlorine levels of your inground pool. We at Pool Builders of Jacksonville, FL give a free pool maintenance guide whenever you avail any of our services.
You can try baking soda if you have an allergic reaction to chemicals
The trusty old baking soda can do the same job as sodium bicarbonate for only a fraction of the price! Since baking soda also includes sodium bicarbonate as one of its listed ingredients.
Add chlorine to your pool water once per week
Adding a large dose of chlorine to the pool to eliminate algae and other contaminants is a must. The amount of chlorine that you should use would be based on the specific chlorine product and the amount of shock you use. It also varies based on the specific chlorine product and the amount of water in your inground pool. You can do this at night time and allow the pump and filter to run overnight and avoid swimming for at least 24 hours after doing this process.
Regularly monitor your pool's water level
Use a garden hose to add the necessary amount of water back in if the water is too low. However, if the water level is too high, rent a submersible pump from a home improvement store to drain the excess. When you have reached the proper water level for your outdoor or inground pool, remember to recheck the chemicals as well.
Filter out body oils from your outdoor or inground pool
you can use a tennis ball to absorb body oils from your outdoor or inground pool. Body oils that can be left behind are suntan lotion, hair product, and natural oils produced by our skin. You can throw a tennis ball into your outdoor pool’s water and the fibers of the tennis ball will absorb oils from it.
Do pressure washing
pressure washing or also known as power washing can make your pool deck shine. It will help get rid of any rust or weather stains that occur over time.
